Every day is a good day when you run

A New England girl's transformation from a runner to a marathoner!

Note to self; don’t read through my marathon training days posts on tumblr while it’s dark out and you already skipped your run today. Can’t the sun come back out for like 30 minutes? :)

CHASEFEAR.COM: The sport of marathon running.

chasefear:

Marathon running is a sport of goodwill. It’s the only sport in the world where if a competitor falls, the others around will pick him or her up. It’s the only sport in the world open to absolutely everyone, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity or any other division you can think of. It’s the…

Steven J. Horowitz: What It Means to Run a Marathon

I didn’t think I would run another marathon for a few years, but now, I feel the only way to process this and show my support to the running world is to run with them. Fall 2013 will mark my second marathon.

Runners are, for better or for worse, a fanatical group. Almost to the point of religious. We sacrifice for this sport. We say no when you want to say yes. We say yes when we want to say no (I’m looking at you 5:30am).

Whatever you do for 23 hours during your day, the one hour you spend running…

My last thought before my interview last week was “I ran a marathon, I can get this job.” I’ll be sure to give myself a boost of confidence with that tomorrow again.

Last week I had my interview and got an email today to schedule a final interview for tomorrow! Yayyyyyaaahhh.

Happy happy.

Didn’t want to post in case it didn’t end in my favor…..but…I got a call back about a teaching position!!!

Even just knowing that someone actually READ my application and that I have an actual shot at it…is amazing.

Effort or Distance?

6 miler complete! Rain and all!

About a mile into it, rain was pouring and my first thought was how to save my iPhone. Last time I ran in the pouring rain, my iPhone had a few months of malfunctioning that it just recently overcame! So luckily the track was nearby and I found a dry spot for it there and ran without music for a bit. Luckily, the rain only lasted for around 10 minutes—man that rain gets in your eyes and can be super uncomfortable! I tossed my shirt as it was soaked and it felt pretty nice to run more bare. I really, really, really don’t like the track but I didn’t want to leave because I didn’t know if it was going to start pouring again and I also didn’t want to run around the neighborhood/city so scantily clad. The track just mentally kills me and I end up walking alot more…..

So I’m coming to realize that while I did accomplish 6 miles, through running and walking breaks, I’m not sure all my effort was in it. I accomplished what I wanted to and mentally I at least didn’t let myself get away with a shorter distance, but I think I did with the effort. Is it better at that point to choose a better effort with a shorter distance? With the marathon, it was just the distance I wanted to accomplish—but now that I have, maybe I should get over the distance mind-frame and focus more on a timed effort. But what is more valuable: Effort or Distance?

Well still haven’t had the guts to ask for a fan at the gym, why am I so weak and not aggressive? Boooo. I will be bringing a fan on Sunday though, no way I am running 6 miles in that sweat. I mean it is almost worse than running outside in the heat! I weakly just stuck with 2 today and figured it was something. Ill save the fight for Sunday.

I read he newspaper that highlighted our marathon in may. And have come to the conclusion that another marathon is undoubtably in my future. Spring 2013…sub 5. Let’s do this!

I’ll make sure I’m an awesome old runner for the sake of good health & possibly being featured in Runner’s World (:

Also, you guys are all awesome! :)

Alrightttt… 4 miles logged on the treadmill today. My face was bright red and my hair was soaked in sweat. Definitely going to request that I can bring a small fan into the gym because it is no fun with 0 breeze going.

Today I felt a slight runners high which I haven’t felt in a long time (probably because I haven’t run long enough to feet it..). Zero patience in heat I guess. The thing about winter running is you have to keep going or you’ll freeze….quite the opposite in the heat.

Anyway, will be getting in 6 miles for my long run this weekend so that is exciting!

Feels so good to have sore legs again :)

I’ve lost a good amount of followers in the last month. Not really sure why but whateves. I have had a crazy busy month and quite frankly, I didn’t want to spread the negativity I’ve been feeling. I told myself I wouldn’t complain and spread the negative thoughts anymore so…i guess I’d rather lose followers and have a positive blog than a lot of followers reading a bunch of fillers and negativity just to write something.

In any case, I signed up for a month at a gym yesterday and did my first solid run in a while on the treadmill. Can’t take the excuses of the heat and so forth anymore and now I can’t have them.

Running 11ish miles in a marathon relay in 7 weeks, so it is time to get back on the horse.
